If your Mac has a Thunderbolt 2 port, you can use either a Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort adapter as the port is the same shape.

If your Mac is older than those mentioned above, chances are it has a DisplayPort connection. This can be a bit confusing as Thunderbolt 2 looks the same as DisplayPort port.
As long as your Mac isn't older than you should be able to get audio and video over Mini Display Port. Some older Macs can only supply video over Mini Display Port, so if you have a Mac that's older than you will most likely find you don't get audio via the TV speakers.
